Summer Eyes, January 2021

In our last issue we thought that we had 2020 vision. As it turns out we did not foresee the 2020 pandemic and the end appears to be closer than it is, even with the vaccines. If you missed it, here is a link to David’s music video of “Vaccine” to the tune of “Jolene.”  

Josie turned 75 on December 1. In honor of this auspicious occasion Josie and David, in collaboration with Nik and Kat Fackler, Jon Hustead & Graham Ulicny created a video entitled “Vignettes from the Prairie.” If you are on this list you have probably already seen the video.  We had 13 wonderful years with the darling Lily. Andrew Rasmussen created a great animated video tribute to her. Click here to see the video. Lily’s eyes were featured on many of our past issues of Summer Eyes. At first Lily was an escape artist – a part Border Collie, without borders, but she developed into a loving companion. She is greatly missed.

As you can readily see, the Covid-19 pandemic has provided an outlet for creating videos. If you are home bound, why not make videos? Or, if you’re stuck at home, why not watch videos? Come on, admit it, you’ve got time on your hands. Don’t worry, none of these videos have gone viral. Click here to see all of the videos.

 After mourning the loss of Lily for a couple of months, rescue dog, Delta Dawn (no doubt named after the song), entered the lives of Josie and David. She was rescued in Oklahoma and flown to a foster home in Kansas City where she had seven puppies. Josie discovered her online and after her pups were weaned, Delta joined the Corbin/Metal-Corbin household. She went from a skinny dog with a kind of bristly coat to a muscular, smooth coated dog. She is thought to be a mix of a Smooth Collie and a Siberian Husky. Delta still has a few quirks to work out, but she is a gentle, loving companion. Delta was also the name of the town where David first lived, in Ohio.

The theater world came to a standstill during the pandemic. Quinn continues to work virtually for Clubbed Thumb. (In 2019, Clubbed Thumb made their Broadway debut with the Tony-nominated and multi award-winning What the Constitution Means to Me, which originated in Summerworks 2017 and during the pandemic was streamed on Amazon Prime). Quinn, Tim and their dog Annie decided to make the move back to Omaha after twelve and a half years in NYC. Public transportation, on which most New Yorkers depend, was much more risky during the pandemic. They are living in a Dundee rental home less than two miles from Josie and David. 

Quinn Metal Corbin and Chelsea Cates' (C+C MINI FACTORY) “minimalist” book entitled A Night at the Farm: A Bedtime Party will be on bookshelves on February 9. David has his eyes on the part of the cow for the Moo-vie version. Click here to get more information. Moo-ve over Animal Farm. Let the competition begin.
